A Market Order
A market order is buying or selling a security at the best available price. Market orders are the most basic type of trade and are generally executed quickly. When you place a market order, you are instructing your broker to buy or sell shares at the best available price. For example, if you place a market buy order for 100 shares of XYZ stock, your broker will attempt to buy 100 shares of XYZ stock at the best available price. Likewise, if you place a market sell order for 100 shares of XYZ stock, your broker will attempt to sell 100 shares of XYZ stock at the best available price. Market orders are not guaranteed to be filled at the desired price, but they typically are filled quickly. Limit orders, on the other hand, are guaranteed to be filled at the desired price but may take longer to execute.
